कवि मार्कस नैटन कहते हैं कि शायद उनका बचपन उस दिन चला गया जब वह ग्यारह साल का नहीं रहा। या फिर जब उसे यह समझ आया कि स्वर्ग और नरक भूगोल में नहीं मिलते, इसलिए वे वास्तव में कहीं दिखाई नहीं देते। कवि सोचता है कि शायद वही दिन उसके बचपन के अंत का दिन था।

Was it when I found my mind was really mine,
To use whichever way I choose,
Producing thoughts that were not those of other people
But my own, and mine alone
Was that the day!

It went to some forgotten place,
That’s hidden in an infant’s face,

कवि कहते हैं कि शायद बचपन तब खत्म हुआ जब उन्हें महसूस हुआ कि उनका दिमाग और विचार उनके अपने हैं, दूसरों के नहीं। वह स्वतंत्र रूप से सोच सकते हैं। अंत में वे कहते हैं कि बचपन कहीं खो गया है और वह सिर्फ छोटे बच्चों के चेहरे पर दिखाई देता है। बस इतना ही उन्हें पता है।
