Either…or and Neither…nor Notes

🌟 1️⃣ Either…or

🔹 Meaning:

या तो…या फिर — जब दो में से एक चीज़ चुनी जाती है।
(It shows a choice between two possibilities.)

🔹 Structure:

👉 Either + noun / clause / verb + or + noun / clause / verb

🔹 Examples:

1. Either you study hard or you will fail.
   → या तो तुम मेहनत से पढ़ो या फेल हो जाओगे।
2. Either Rohan or Sohan is responsible.
   → या तो रोहन या सोहन ज़िम्मेदार है।
3. I will buy either a pen or a pencil.
   → मैं या तो पेन खरीदूँगा या पेंसिल।
4. You can either stay here or go home.
   → तुम या तो यहाँ रह सकते हो या घर जा सकते हो।
5. Either my father or my mother will come.
   → या तो मेरे पिताजी या माताजी आएँगे।

✅ Rule:
अगर “either…or” दो subjects को जोड़ता है, तो verb nearest subject (जो “or” के बाद है) के अनुसार लगती है।

Either Ram or his friends are coming. ✅
Either Ram or his brother is coming. ✅

🌟 2️⃣ Neither…nor

🔹 Meaning:

न तो…और न ही — जब दोनों में से कोई नहीं होता।
(It shows rejection or negation of both choices.)

🔹 Structure:

👉 Neither + noun / clause / verb + nor + noun / clause / verb

🔹 Examples:

1. Neither Rohan nor Sohan is responsible.
   → न तो रोहन और न ही सोहन ज़िम्मेदार है।
2. Neither he nor his brother came to school.
   → न तो वह और न ही उसका भाई स्कूल आया।
3. I like neither tea nor coffee.
   → मुझे न तो चाय और न ही कॉफी पसंद है।
4. Neither my parents nor my friends know about it.
   → न तो मेरे माता-पिता और न ही मेरे दोस्त इसके बारे में जानते हैं।
5. Neither the boy nor the girl was present.
   → न तो लड़का और न ही लड़की उपस्थित थी।

✅ Rule:
“neither…nor” में भी verb second subject (यानि “nor” के बाद वाले) के अनुसार लगती है।

Neither Ram nor his friends are coming. ✅

2. Ramesh will go to Delhi. Ramesh will go to Mumbai.
   ➡️ Ramesh will go either to Delhi or to Mumbai.
   👉 रमेश या तो दिल्ली जाएगा या मुंबई।
3. Take tea. Take coffee.
   ➡️ Either take tea or coffee.
   👉 या तो चाय लो या कॉफी।
4. She will come today. She will come tomorrow.
   ➡️ She will come either today or tomorrow.
   👉 वह या तो आज आएगी या कल।
5. You may read the book. You may watch TV.
   ➡️ You may either read the book or watch TV.
   👉 तुम या तो किताब पढ़ सकते हो या टीवी देख सकते हो।

(न तो…और न ही)

1. He doesn’t eat rice. He doesn’t eat bread.
   ➡️ He eats neither rice nor bread.
   👉 वह न तो चावल खाता है और न ही रोटी।
2. She didn’t sing. She didn’t dance.
   ➡️ She neither sang nor danced.
   👉 उसने न तो गाया और न ही नाचा।
3. I don’t know the answer. My friend doesn’t know the answer.
   ➡️ Neither I nor my friend knows the answer.
   👉 न तो मैं और न ही मेरा दोस्त उत्तर जानता है।
4. The boy wasn’t happy. The girl wasn’t happy.
   ➡️ Neither the boy nor the girl was happy.
   👉 न तो लड़का खुश था और न ही लड़की।
5. He didn’t call me. He didn’t message me.
   ➡️ He neither called me nor messaged me.
   👉 उसने न तो मुझे फोन किया और न ही संदेश भेजा।
