The king ordered the arch to be built to commemorate the victory of his soldiers and to show that peace and glory had returned to his kingdom.

Q.2. What was a disgrace for the king?

Answer:
It was a disgrace for the king that his crown fell off while he was passing under the newly built arch. He felt insulted and blamed the arch for this dishonour.

Q.3. How was the behaviour of the ministers?

Answer:
The ministers were foolish, sycophantic (चापलूस), and blindly obeyed the king. They never gave honest advice and kept changing their stance to please the king.

Q.4. How, according to you, can peace and liberty be maintained in a state? (2024)

Answer:
Peace and liberty can be maintained by ensuring justice, wise leadership, honest governance, and by promoting education and equality. Leaders must listen to the people and act in their best interest.

Q.5. Suggest a few instances in the poem which highlight humour and irony.

Answer:
Some humorous and ironic instances are:

  • The king blames the arch for his crown falling, which is absurd.
  • The chief of the builders is sentenced to death, but the blame keeps shifting.
  • The king finally orders his own execution, and people actually hang someone — ironically, the king himself.
  • At the end, they praise the “just and noble” king who is now dead by his own foolishness.
